President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will be number 1 on the ballot paper in the upcoming General Elections.
This was after a balloting exercise was held by the Electoral Commission to determine the position of each of the qualified presidential candidates on the ballot paper in the December 7 elections.
Gary Nimako of the New Patriotic Party who was representative of the party picked the number one position while the Deputy General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Boamah Otokunor picked the number two position.
This implies that the presidential candidate of the governing NPP, president Akufo-Addo will occupy the first position on the ballot paper while his main contender, former president John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will occupy the second position on the ballot paper on December 7, 2020.
Members of both political parties have started celebrating and assigning meanings to the positions of their presidential candidates on the ballot paper.
The NDC had earlier raised concerns with the balloting procedure but seemed pleased with the outcome.
The newly formed party Ghana Union Movement (GUM) followed on the third position with the Convention People’s Party occupying the fourth position.
Others are:
Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) – 5
Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) – 6
All People’s Congress (APC) – 7
LPG – 8
PNC – 9
PPP – 10
NDP – 11
Independent candidate – 12
The balloting exercise comes a day after the announcement of presidential aspirants who qualified to contest for the upcoming elections by the Electoral Commission.
The Commission announced at a press briefing that 12 of the aspirants qualified to contest the 2020 presidential election while 5 others were disqualified.
