President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta as a Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance and Private Sector Investments.
Ken Ofori-Atta’s new role in the government of Akufo-Addo comes after he was relieved of his duties as Finance Minister in a major reshuffle in this administration.
Following his removal, there were reports that the president had reassigned him another position.
The reports lingered for days with government neither confirming nor disputing it.
But a letter from the Office of the President and signed by Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, which has surfaced on social, indicates that the former minister has been handed another position in the government.
“I am pleased to inform you that the President of the Republic has appointed you as the Senior Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy for International Finance and Private Sector Investments,” it stated.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate you formally on your reassignment and wish you the very best in this new office”.
Ken Ofori-Atta was one of Akufo-Addo’s appointees many demanded his removal over non-performance.
Through social media platforms and through protests, the demand for his removal was deafening.
But the president ignored the loud calls until when members of his party’s caucus in Parliament joined the chorus for Ken Ofori-Atta’s ousting.
Although there were reports that he had agreed to let the then Finance Minister go after when the country finally struck a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he failed to do so until the recent reshuffle.
