President-Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed appreciation to his appointees whom he has removed from government.

In a statement announcing the removal of some ministers from their posts and at the same time, nominating their replacements, the president eulogized the outgoing appointees for what he said were their commitment, competence, dedication and hard working during their stay in office, which he indicated led to the realization of government’s mandate to the people.

As many as 9 ministers including Ken Ofori-Atta and 10 deputies have been relieved of their duties.

The president, in the statement, wished them well in their future endeavours as he urges Parliament to expedite the approval process of the nominees for their replacement.

“The President personally expressed his sincere appreciation directly to each of the Ministers and Deputy Ministers, who have exited Government, for their commitment, competence, dedication and hard work in office, which helped in the realization of Government’s mandate to the Ghanaian people over the last seven years, and wished each of them well in their future endeavours,” the statement signed by Director of Communications at the Presidency said.

It added, “President Akufo-Addo is hopeful that Parliament will, once again, on a bipartisan basis, expedite the approval of his nominees, so they can join the Government forthwith, and assist in the delivery of his mandate for his second term in office”.

This follows years of public pressure on the president to reshuffle his appointees as many believe most of them have underperformed.

The demand for a reshuffle reached a crescendo during the peak of the economic crisis when Members of Parliament from the governing New Patriotic Party publicly called on the president to relieve the Finance Minister of his duties.

Although there were reports that he had agreed to let Ken Ofori-Atta go after when the country finally struck a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he failed to do so.

But just months to the end of his tenure, he has announced a major reshuffle of the government.

While some of the ministers have been reassigned to other ministries with some Deputies taking over their positions, others have lost their space in the government.
