Musician and Media Personality Blakk Rasta has accused the New Patriotic Party government of deliberately cooking up the Agyapa Royalties Agreement for purposes of looting the state.
According to him, the justifications given by government for coming up with such a deal falls flat in the face of protecting the interest of the country and its citizens to enjoy the gains of their natural resources.
He explained that the deal, is worse than other acts of corruption carried out by governments of other African countries.
Blakk Rasta said on his radio show dubbed Taxi Driver on Zylofon fm that “this Agyapa deal is one of the monstrously corrupt deals Africa has ever had. It has even relegated the Angolan corruption of a deal to the background. This is the great-grandfather of all corrupt deals”.
He argued that Ghana stands to lose significantly if the deal is allowed to go through adding that it is unthinkable for Ghana’s minerals royalties to be valued for between $500 million and $1 billion in perpetuity.
He re-stated a legal opinion of the Attorney General on the deal which described it as “unconscionable”.
“The Finance Minister should be running around each and every household begging Ghanaians for this corrupt deal. The Attorney General who has been appointed by Nana Addo himself said this deal is unconscionable. A clique of nepotism DNA laden guys in power are still ready to push this deal. Ghanaians must sit back and think,” he added.
He continued “who sells what he doesn’t have yet. They are selling all the Gold and Diamond we have now and what we will get when all these men and women are dead and will never resurrect because they are corrupt”.
The Agyapa Mineral Royalties Agreement has been a subject of controversies since the majority side of parliament approved the deal amidst protest from the minority side of the house.
The agreement between government of Ghana and Agyapa Royalties Limited which acts as a Special Purpose Vehicle is to enable Ghana secure US$ 1 billion to finance large infrastructural projects.
The Agyapa Royalties Limited is expected to raise the money for Ghana from international and local stock markets.
