Black Stars winger Jordan Ayew has blamed the team’s defeat to Carpe Verde in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) on inexperience.
Many football lovers in Ghana have been left disappointed after the national men’s football team lost their opening match to the Blue Shark of Carpe Verde.
The Black Stars had a poor showing at the beginning of the match, conceding at the 17th minute.
They, however, got back on their feet, scoring two goals but the first one was ruled out over an offside.
Their opponents, however, continued to press on and in the dying moments of the game, found the back of the net again and ultimately, defeating the Black Stars with two goals against 1.
Speaking in the aftermath of the match, Jordan attributed the loss to inexperience.
He said close to a dozen of the players are making their first appearance at a major tournament like the AFCON hence, the blunders they committed resulting in the defeat were not unexpected.
Jordan added that the team will have to step their game in no time in order to stand a chance of progressing further in the tournament.
“We lack a lot of experience. At the end of the day, if you look at the squad that we have more than 10 is their first AFCON. So these types of mistakes would happen and we need to learn quick because the AFCON is not waiting for anybody and you know it’s not easy, it’s hard. But we are men and we need to stand up and face the reality,” he told the press.
Ghana has two more matches to play at the Group stages and may progress to the next stage of the AFCON or be kicked out depending on their performance.
