The African Electoral Institute (AEI) has urged all qualified Ghanaians who are 18 years and above but have never registered to do so.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana has slated May 7 to 27, 2024, for the registration of eligible voters aged 18 years and above for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Communications, Joshua Nii Adjin- Tettey, the AEI emphasized the importance of registering to vote, stating that “registering to vote as an electorate is very necessary in every electoral process for citizens to determine who they want to represent them in terms of democratic governance. It is, therefore, a civic duty as enshrined in the 1992 constitution”.
The AEI also reminded the public that this time, the registration exercise will be carried out at the EC’s District Offices across the country, and encouraged qualified persons to locate the District Office of the EC in their locality and register.
To facilitate the registration process, the AEI recommends that the EC publishes a list of all its District Offices and all other registration centers and their locations.
The AEI, however, hopes that Ghana will have a successful and incident-free registration exercise and looks forward to subsequent “activities on the EC’s Programme of Activities”.
