The Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin-Salih, has expressed his utmost desire to leave a legacy of a peaceful region that will continue to work towards development.
Having prioritized security following his reassignment to the Upper East Region, Dr. Bin-Salih states that he hopes to work with all relevant stakeholders to restore lasting peace to conflicting zones of the region, especially Bawku.
Speaking Sunday at an engagement with the media after similar engagements with various stakeholders and identifiable groups, the Minister, says peace is at the top of his radar.
According to him, the Regional Security Committee was considering a decision to ease the restrictions in Bawku following months of relative calm until a recent shooting incident in Pusiga.
It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo recently swapped the Upper East and West regional ministers. This has left the new minister with barely six months to steer the region’s affairs.
Speaking to Journalists, Dr. Bin-Salih, says his legacy will be defined at the time he would be handing over as minister though he would want it to be in the area of helping to restore conflicting zones to lasting peace.
“If by the grace of God, I’m able to provide the leadership that will allow us to let sanity prevail in the Bawku enclave, that alone, I will be very happy because there is so much tension in that enclave though security reports indicate the tension is going down.
As I indicated, when we were about to ease the restrictions in Bawku, a needless shooting occurred in Pusiga and that means that we have to tread cautiously. If I come and I can lead all of us to ensure calm returns to Bawku, I will say Alhamdudilah.” The Minister emphasized.
