The Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency Abdulai Abanga has lost his seat in Parliament.
Abanga was the only successful candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party out of the 15, who represented the party in the 15 constituencies of the region in the 2020 elections.
The rest of the 14 candidates lost their bids, leaving the NPP with just a seat in the eighth parliament from the Upper East Region.
Ahead of the 2024 elections, the NPP had targeted to retain the Binduri one and win more seats in the region.
But certified results from the Electoral Commission (EC) show that the MP has lost his bid for re-election to Yussif Mahammud of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NDC candidate garnered 21,943 of the valid votes to unseat Abanga, who scored 7,811 votes.
Amadu Alale of the People’s National Convention (PNC) came last, obtaining 160 votes.
