The Office of Special Prosecutor says it is investigating former Chief Executive of Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Mustapha Abdul-Hamid  and three others in relation to an alleged embezzlement of GH¢1.3 billion from the Unified  Petroleum Pricing Fund (UPPF).

The three other suspects in the case include the Coordinator of UPPF Jacob Amoah and Freda Tandoh and Wendy Ashun Newman, both staff of the NPA.

Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng made this disclosure at a press conference to give update on investigations by the OSP into suspected corruption and corruption related offences.

“OSP has also commenced investigation into suspected corruption and corruption related offences in respect of an alleged embezzlement of 1.3 billion cedis from the unified petroleum fund (UPPF) at the National Petroleum Authority (NPA),” he stated.

He, however, fell short of giving details of the specific offences the former NPA CEO and the three others are being investigated for.

Mustapha Abdul-Hamid was appointed CEO of NPA in June 2021 in the second tenure of the Akufo-Addo administration.

Prior to that, he had served as Minister of Information from 2017 to 2018 when he was reassigned to the Ministry of Zango and Inner Cities as minister.

An Islamic scholar and an academic, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid is a close associate of former President Akufo-Addo and had served as the former leader’s spokesperson until his election as President in 2016.
