Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) Abdallah Jonathan Salifu has dismissed assertions that the Regional Minister-Designate is not cut out for such a position.

Speaking in an interview on Breakfast News on Dreamz FM yesterday, Abdallah described the assertions as unfortunate.

He argued that the Regional Minister-Designate is not just highly qualified but also has garnered a wealth of experience through his work as party executive to spearhead the region’s development.

“Somebody who has taught for several years. Somebody who has worked for several years. Somebody who has been with us for all this while and you say he’s not experienced enough or probably not well-prepared? Well, that in itself would be unfortunate,” he stated.

For a region that is ravaged by conflict, Abdallah said there is no better candidate to lead it than Donatus Akamugri, who appreciates the issues affecting the people and has expertise in conflict management.

On whether the nomination is a reward for Donatus’ long service and dedication to his party, Abdallah said it is not wrong to reward hard work.

“If you are talking of hard work, he has actually worked hard. And anybody who is rewarded for hard work, I don’t see it to be bad”.

Donatus Akamugri is among the first list of 10 Regional Ministerial nominees President Mahama has submitted to Parliament to be considered for appointment.

His nomination has been welcomed by the governing party in the region who thanked the President for picking him.

Others, however, expressed misgivings about his ability to effectively run such an office, considering his unwavering loyalty to his party.

But Abdallah dismissed such apprehension, stating that the nominee will not turn the Regional Coordinating Council into an NDC secretariat if he is appointed.

He is confident that, given his lobbying skills and appreciation of the needs of the people, will push for the development of the region and bring lasting peace to Bawku.

“If you check his CV, you get to realize that he’s somebody who has knowledge  in conflict management”.

“And I believe with the little experience he has in public service and in his area of study, he shall bring to bear how to manage and resolve the Bawku Crisis. And also help us get developmental projects as we always pray for”.
