Former Parliamentary Aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Nabdam Constituency, Vida Yakong has ridiculed the Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage following the minister’s defeat in the Navrongo Central Constituency Parliamentary election.
The Regional Minister’s bid to retain the Navrongo Central Constituency seat for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) was dashed in the December 7 polls.
At the end of the polls, Madam Abayage only managed to poll 15,821 votes losing to the NDC’s Parliamentary candidate, Sampson Tangombu Chiragia who polled 26,947 votes.
In a proverbial statement reacting to the minister’s defeat, Dr. Vida Yakong chastised Madam Abayage for mocking her when she lost in the parliamentary primaries of the NDC instead of taking cues from her defeat.
She believes Regional Minister lacks what it takes to win an election which is devoid of voting buy and thus, she should not have mocked her for losing in the NDC’s parliamentary primaries.
She stated “to the lioness who has set a record for distribution of goodies and money to buy delegates in the Navrongo Central Constituency to win primaries, I thought she learned how to ‘crawl before walking. ‘These were your own words a few months ago to a colleague woman who lost primaries.”
Dr. Yakong added “my dear sister, you should have taken the brotherly and kind advice from Hon Kofi Adda that it’s not ‘slaying and drinking around the constituency’ and region that will win you the seat but being a responsible person capable of standing the task of decent leadership and womanhood. I encourage you to learn from the story of the fly and the corpse, and also, know that a ‘Calf does not laugh at an adult hornless cow.’ Better luck next time.”
Tangoba Abayage, in 2019, teased the University for Development Studies’ (UDS) lecturer after she was beaten in the NDC’s parliamentary primaries in the Nabdam Constituency.
In a post on social media throwing shades at the lecturer immediately after the primaries, the Regional Minister had intimated that Dr. Yakong’s abysmal performance in the primaries was because she had focused her attention on attacking the Akufo-Addo-led administration instead of prosecuting her campaign to win the opposition party’s primaries.
But for Dr. Yakong, the minister was only able to win the primaries because she had unduly influenced the delegates with goodies and money hence, her defeat in the main election.
