The governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) parliamentary candidate for the upcoming elections in Navrongo Constituency Alhaji Abdallah Otito Achuliwor has responded to his potential contender Simon Aworigo’s comment that he is unfazed by his (Otito’s) candidature.
Simon Aworigo, who is the main opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) parliamentary candidate for the area, in an interview on State of Our Nation on Dreamz FM in January expressed confidence of beating the NPP’s candidate and winning the elections.
He stated that he was certain of retaining the seat for his party and did not lose sleep over his potential main contender.
He had argued that despite being domiciled abroad, he had demonstrated that he has the interest of the people at heart and thus, was confident that they would choose him over his opponent.
But responding to the assertion by the NDC’s candidate, Alhaji Achuliwor down played Aworigo’s chances in the polls.
He said his opponent is not known and has no personal connection with the people of the area.
He, thus, wondered how he can win over him (Achuliwor) who dines and wines with the people and has a deeper understanding of their needs.
“Who knows him? Who knows Simon? Even in his village, go there and survey and find out how many people know him? So how can such a person sit in the UK and say he is going to floor me?”
He added, “Within a month, I spend half of the month home and when I come, there are programs for me so I keep moving from place to place. He’s sitting in the UK, he has his constituency chairman who’s doubling as the parliamentary candidate”.
