Flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has assured that his party will ensure a timely collation of results of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

This, the former president said, will give the party foreknowledge of the outcome of the elections and position it to help the Electoral Commission correct mistakes it may make during the process.

“We shall collate our results on time as we did during the recent Assin North by election and the just ended limited voters registration exercise. And on 7th December, if the EC makes any mistakes, we shall promptly correct them,” he stated.

The NDC had, in previous elections, been ridiculed for failing to ensure beforehand collation of results and making wild pronouncements in relation to the outcome of elections when they had no tangible data to rely on.

Although the party had cited its own collated results as basis for claiming it won the 2020 elections and thus, rejected the declaration of president Akufo-Addo as winner, it presented no such evidence during the hearing of the petition it filed challenging the declaration by the EC.

During the party’s internal elections, now National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah accused the then National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo of failing to lead the NDC to independently collate results.

But interacting with his followers on social media, leader of the NDC said the party has, in recent elections, ensure timely collations of election results and will ensure same is replicated in the 2024 elections.

Assuring electorates that his party will protect their votes, Mr. Mahama stated, “This election is not going to be business as usual. Through our party executives, we are recruiting competent, committed and loyal agents at the constituency and branch levels. Personally, I have also tasked the NDC elections and IT Directorate to rely on our party’s robust database to generate potential polling agents”.

He added, “In addition, we are recruiting volunteers, willing young Ghanaians, ready and willing, to join our campaign efforts in the communities to drive home the message and demand change”.
