Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has taken a jab at his likely contender in the upcoming elections, stating that Ghana does not need inexperienced person as a leader.
The former president stated that the affairs of the country have been gravely mismanaged and left in dire straits such that it requires an experienced team to fix the situation and put things back on track.
Making reference to flag-bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s description of himself as driver’s mate, Mr. Mahama said the Vice-President by his utterances has admitted that he lacks the requisite leadership skills and therefore, cannot be handed the job of leading the country.
On the other hand, he believes he has the required experience and demonstrated his ability at tackling such crises and thus, should be given the nod in the upcoming elections.
“We don’t need a driver’s mate. Where Ghana is, we need an experienced driver to move the car out of the ditch, put it back on the road, and drive us safely to our destination,” he told a cheering crowd in Bolgatanga.
The NDC leader added that he has an accomplished running-mate, who will bring her competence and experience to bear in resolving the crises if he elected president.
Extolling Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Mr. Mahama said his running-mate’s elevation to the second highest office of the land if he is voted president will not only be historic but also serve as an inspiration to woman in the country to strive for similar high positions.
“And not only a driver, we also need a co-driver. Not a driver’s mate. We need a co-driver. And that co-driver is a woman.”
“For the first time in the history of Ghana, I am convinced that on 7th December, we would have a Vice President elect who is a woman. And that would be a role model for our mothers, our sisters, and our daughters, that they too can aspire to reach the highest office of the land,” he stated.
Continuing his taunting of Dr. Bawumia, he said, “She’s not going to be a driver’s mate. She’s going to be a co-driver”.
Mr. Mahama, who was addressing a rally in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, asked electorates not to risk the country’s potentials further by voting for the NPP candidate, who, he said, has demonstrated he doesn’t have experience and qualities to navigate the country out of its prevailing troubles.
