The Convention People’s Party (CPP) is reiterating calls for merger of all Nkrumaist parties to wrestle power from the two leading political parties.

Speaking at the National Delegates Congress in the Upper East Region, Regional Chairman of the party, Alhaji Hussein Ibrahim emphasized the need for the Nkrumaist parties to come together and form a formidable force in the elections.

He argued that the first president of Ghana Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was a unifier and thus, people, who subscribe to his ideologies, must unite and not segregate in smaller units.

Kwame Nkrumah is one person. How can Kwame Nkrumah be everywhere? Everybody is claiming that he is Kwame Nkrumah. It doesn’t work. Until we all come together and have a formidable force, we will one day take up this issue,” he stated.

The National Delegates Congress held in all the 16 regions of the country saw the election of a flagbearer of the party for the 2024 polls.

At the end of the election in the Upper East Region, Yaw Anokye Frimpong polled 59 votes while his main and only contender Nana Frimpomaa Sarpong Kumakumah obtained 38 votes with 1 reject ballot.

Madam Frimpooma Kumakumah, however, emerged winner of the flagbearer race after obtaining 763 votes out of the total 1,349 valid votes cast in the 16 regions.

Mr. Anokye Frimpong secured 586 to concede defeat in the primary.
The party also conducted a referendum to determine whether to amend its current constitution or not.

With just few days to the filing of nominations for the 2024 elections, Alhaji Hussein Ibrahim said the party will elect its parliamentary candidates as soon as possible.

Immediately from today, I will be going back to Accra to attend central committee meeting. There, we will draw the lines. Where are we supposed to have the candidate, where are we not supposed to have the candidate? That all will depend on the central committee as a final decision”.

He is confident of the CPP making significant inroads in the December 7 election74.
