The governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) candidate for Bolgatanga Central Constituency in the recently held general elections is perturbed that he lost even at his backyard.

Speaking for the first time after suffering a heavy defeat to the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency in Saturday’s polls, Elvis Atia Awonekai popularly known as Figo noted that Isaac Adongo won in all the polling stations in his home community Tanzui.

This, he stated, is disturbing given his enormous contribution to the development and betterment of the lives of the people of the area.

“The entire place that I come from, Tanzui, I lost Tanzui, both presidential parliaments, and it was quite worrying,” he stated.

According to him, he has dedicated the greater part of his more than 4-decade existence on earth to serving his community and has helped at least one person from almost every clan of the Tanzui community.

“My electoral area is a place, over the years, even without thinking of becoming a candidate, I  have laboured and sacrificed, paid my dues. Most of the young guys, I facilitated several opportunities, both permanent, (for them) and paid people’s school fees.”

He continued, “There is no clan in my area that I haven’t provided jobs. There is no clan in my area that I would not help one or two people to either get scholarship or  pay for their fees. There is no clan within my electoral area that has issues that they wouldn’t come to me”.

He is, therefore, shocked that people of the community which he has served diligently would reject his bid to represent them in Parliament.

Ahead of the election on December 7, 2024, Figo was confident of ousting Isaac Adongo, who is currently the MP for Bolgatanga Central Constituency.

But that was not to be as he polled 15,470 votes to trail  Isaac Adongo, who garnered 35,101 of the total valid votes cast.

Speaking in an interview on State of Our Nation on Dreamz FM, Figo said the cause of his defeat is multifaceted.

He, though, mentioned voter apathy as a major contributory factor.
