Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency Isaac Adongo has said government has diverted funds meant for the rehabilitation of the Vea Dam in the Upper East region.

According to him, an amount of $20 million which was secured by the Mahama administration and earmarked for the rehabilitation works have been redirected by the New Patriotic Party government for its One Village One Dam projects.

The National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament who was addressing members of the press after filing his parliamentary nomination forms in Bolgatanga said “In 2012, under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, the NDC government secured 150 million dollars from the World Bank and the USAID. That money was supposed to develop the Ghana Commercial Agriculture, which included a number of irrigation dams and the rehabilitation of existing irrigation dams and to develop a number of warehouses across the Northern part of Ghana. Part of that money was to rehabilitate the Vea Dam and the canals in Nyariga.”

He further served notice that the money, will be required from the Nana Addo led administration for its intended purpose.

“I want to tell Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that our $20 million that john Mahama got for us to rehabilitate the Vea Dam that he used to do his one village one dam and he used to do his planting for food and jobs, we will require that money back to rehabilitate our dam,” he added.

Government has revealed that 435 dams have so far been constructed under its Agricultural Sector Support Program dubbed One Village One Dam.
