Eugene Kwame Marfo known by his stage name as Kuami Eugene has been adjudged the Artiste of the Year at the 21st edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.
The musician beat competition from some of Ghana’s top musicians including rapper Sarkodie, Medical, Kofi Kinaata to win the coveted award.
The Lynx Entertainment signee takes over as Artiste of the Year from the late Ebony Reigns who has been reigning as Artiste of the Year since 2018.
Last year, Kuami Eugene was nominated in same category but due to the fracas between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, the Winner for the overall award for that year was not announced.
The 23-year-old bagged two awards on the night including the Highlife Artiste of the Year which he has won for three consecutive times and the coveted award, Artiste of the Year.
His label mate, Kidi also went home with the Album of the Year award.
Also, musician Fameye was crowned New Artiste of the Year, a category Kuami Eugene won in 2018.
Ras Kuuku after several nominations in the reggae/dancehall category got to win the award as the 2020 VGMA reggae/dancehall Artiste of the Year.
Diana Hamilton who was nominated in the Artiste of the Year category took away the Gospel Artiste of the Year award.
The Artiste with the most awards for the two-day award event is Kofi Kinaata who bagged three awards; Songwriter of the Year which he won on the first day, and Highlife Song of the year and Most Popular song of the year were his wins on the August 29 event.
Aside the announcement of awards, the events saw sizzling music performances by some of the country’s best musicians including E.L, Efya, Kuami Eugene, Kidi, Kwesi Arthur, AKwaboah among others.
