Hip-hop/hiplife artiste, Jason Gaisie better known by his stage name Pappy Kojo has stated that he is a homosexual.
The rapper said this when he was asked about his rumored relationship with actress, Yvonne Nelson in an interview on TV3’s Showbiz360 on Friday, February 19, 2021.
Taken aback by his comment, host of the show sought to find out whether it was a joke. But the rapper insisted that he is a gay and even went ahead to state the kind of men he prefers.
When the host drew his attention to the laws of Ghana which prohibits activities of homosexuals, Pappy Kojo reiterated that he is a homosexual and does not care about the laws of the country.
“I’m gay. I’m homosexual man. It is not a joke. I don’t care (about laws of Ghana). It is what it is. I can’t change who I am,” he stated.
A cross-section of the public, however, believe he was joking.
His comment comes at a time issues of LGBQI have become topical in the media following the opening of an LGBTQI rights office in Accra.
According to Director of LGBQI Rights in Ghana, Alex Kofi Donor, the opening of the office is to enable them meet and discuss issues affecting the LGBQI community in Ghana particularly abuses against them as well as find ways of resolving such abuses.
He claimed individuals who identify themselves as LGBTQI are verbally and physically abused in the country and therefore urged the general public to regard issues relating to LGBQI as human rights issues.
But Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Designate, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo indicated during her vetting that the country has no plans of legalizing or recognizing homosexuality.
