KUAMI EUGENE - SINGER

Award-winning singer Kuame Eugene, has expressed his displeasure after a song in which he is featured has turned out to be an endorsement song for President Nana Akufo-Addo’s bid for a second term as President.

In the song, Happy Day, Sarkodie is heard endorsing the President for a second term, saying that every day has become a happy day since Nana Akufo-Addo became President. He stressed how the President has ended power cuts, dumsor, and made it possible for his children to enjoy free education.

But Kuami Eugene has noted that he was misled into thinking that the song was an apolitical song. He revealed that when he and his team heard a verse by Sarkodie endorsing the President and confronted him, they denied it only for him to hear it being played on air.

“I am uncomfortable; I still don’t know Sarkodie’s motive for the song. It will have an effect on my career. I wasn’t ready to vouch for any political party openly… It will not end here,” he told MzGee Ghana on 3FM.

The song has gone viral since it became public yesterday. While members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have praised Sarkodie for the endorsement, saying that he is speaking to facts, members of the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) have dismissed the song as propaganda. Some NDC members have said that even if all the musicians endorse the President, he will still lose.

Earlier Member of Parliament(MP) for Ningo Prampram Sam George alleged that the singer, Sarkodie, was paid GH500,000 by the NPP to do the endorsement song.
