The donation forms part of a campaign launched to promote the wearing of nose masks among Ghanaians, dubbed ‘Wear It Everywhere’ which saw the telecom company carry out similar donations across the country totaling 88,500 pieces of nose masks.

The Upper East Region has a total of 282 confirmed cases of COVID-19 after recording its first case in April, 2020 with two deaths recorded.

According to Mr. Asamane, MTN has introduced several packages including zero rating some websites to reduce the cost of data for its clients.

“Being here today in first part, we wanted to come and say thank you to them for the wonderful job that they have done by fighting this pandemic and keeping us all safe. Since the pandemic too, MTN has also been part of the process by supporting in a lot of other activities. We donated about 44,000 PPE’s and PRC machines to the national COVID fighting team. Then also we donated to the Nuguchi Memorial Institute and are now here today to donate 3,000 pieces of nose masks to the regional hospital and 2,700 to the Bongo District Hospital. We have done more by zero rating many websites to reduce the cost of data to our clients,“ he said.

Acting Medical Director at the Upper East Regional Hospital, Dr. Samuel Aborah who expressed gratitude to MTN for the gesture urged the public to strictly adhere to all COVID-19 protocols.

“The treatment center has managed over 230 confirmed cases with one death at the facility.  Government has been helping so what you’ve brought will augment the support we have received. I equally want to advise the public that the virus is with us so we shouldn’t compromise our safety and continue to observe the preventive practices because the virus may be with people that we haven’t diagnosed. People with other underlying health conditions are at risk of developing severe form of the COVID-19 when they contract the disease. So it’s better for all of us to observe the safety protocols on COVID-19”.
