Government’s flagship industrialisation policy, the 1 District 1 Factory initiative is yielding remarkable results, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has said.

According to him, about 126 factories have been established and operationalized under the policy since its commencement in 2018.

The establishment and operationalization of these factories have, in turn, created about 160,000 direct and indirect jobs especially for the youth, he disclosed.

The minister said this while presenting the Mid-Year Budget Review before Parliament today, July 31, 2023.

“In line with government unwavering commitment to industrialization, the implementation of the flagship 1 District, 1 factory initiative is on course. As of June 2023, 126 factories were operational nationwide.

Over 160,000 direct and indirect jobs have been created especially for the youth who have been mobilized to establish agro processing factories in 58 districts”.

The 1 District 1 Factory initiative, which was introduced by the Akufo-Addo government, is aimed at industrializing the country’s economy and creating jobs for its masses.

Though government claims the initiative has chalked significant successes in providing employment opportunities for especially the youth, investigations by the media have revealed that most of the factories have either been abandoned or shutdown due to lack of support or raw materials.
