In the wake of calls for a either a complete ban on betting or even stricter restrictions, a young man has detailed how he spent money his boss gave to him to do some transaction at the bank on gambling.
Though he later found ways of paying back the money, he was pushed by that act to come to the realization that betting was gradually taking a toll on his finances and life and needed to take a bold step to stop the act.
This, therefore, pushed him to finally stop betting and any form of gambling.
“I remember one time my boss sent me to do some transaction in the bank but at the end I spent it on gambling then I tried means to get the money back. When it happened to me that way, I just said no, I will not gamble again and that is how stopped gambling,” he stated.
Giving his name as Thomas, a resident of Soe in the Bolgatanga Municipality, the gentleman says it is his hope that government will take a bold step to ban gambling.
“If you just look around town, all young guys are into it so if government can do something by banning gambling I will be very happy”.
Currently, government has imposed a 10% tax on bet winnings which has taken effect today, August 15, 2023.
However, others including Thomas who phoned in during State of Our Nation show on Wednesday, are calling for a total ban considering how betting is leading many young people into crime, debt and huge losses.
