President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said inconsistencies on the part of his opponent John Dramani Mahama is making it difficult for a better public discourse on policies and programs that can transform the lives of Ghanaians.
President Nana Addo in a reaction on OMAN FM monitored by dreamzfmonline.com to a promise made by National Democratic Congress flagbearer and former President John Dramani Mahama to legalise and regulate Okada in Ghana said the promise of the former president is populist.
According to him, the law which currently makes the Okada business unlawful in Ghana was made at a time Mr. John Mahama was in government serving as vice President under late President John Evans Atta Mills.
He therefore found it inconsistent for the former President to take a new position on the Okada business when he is in opposition.
“It’s just populist. It’s another sign of inconsistency. When you are in power you say one thing and when you are out of power you say something else. It doesn’t help in creating better public discourse,” he said.
The President further rejected claims made by the NDC flagbearer to the effect that Okada will create more and sustainable jobs than NABCO.
He added that “How can that provide more jobs than NABCO and Planting for foods and jobs? We have provided over two million jobs with these social intervention initiatives. So how can you say that okada will provide more jobs”?
Former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to legalise Okada business when elected into office as President in the December polls.
The pledge has generated mixed reactions from stakeholders in the transport sector.
Meanwhile, a Coalition of Owners of Okada have charged President Nana Addo to clearly state his position on the legalisation of the business.
