Parliamentary aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Nabdam Constituency, Lamtiig Apanga says he will provide the right leadership for the development of the area if he is given the nod to contest the Parliamentary Elections in 2024 and eventually, become the area’s MP.

According to the legal practitioner, who is seeking to unseat the incumbent MP for the constituency, the area is extremely deprived and thus, requires vibrant and transformational leadership that will push earnestly for its development.

“Nabdam development has moved in a very slow pace and if you don’t get the louder voice to galvanize both NDC and NPP, stakeholders, men and women together and be able to reach out to external support system that will provide us help, we will still be at the same slow pace,” he stated in an interview on State of Our Nation.

Mr. Lamtiig said although he has, over the years, in his individual capacity, contributed to alleviate the deprivation in the constituency, he will be in a better position to press for the area’s developmental challenges to be holistically addressed if he is made MP.

“I think that it’s about time I offered more to my community. I have done community work in several other ways. But I feel I would be in a better position to do it more when I occupy the position of the MP.

Then I will have the legitimate right to be able to advocate much stronger the needs of Nabdam, much stronger the developmental agenda of Nabdam so that we can bring home development to Nabdam and enhance what we are”.

He chastised the sitting MP for Nabdam, Dr. Mark Nawaane for failing in his leadership of the area.

The legal practitioner claimed Dr. Nawaane, although has had the opportunity to represent the people of Nabdam for 2 terms, has failed to advocate for the development of the area.

This, in his estimation, is one of the reasons the constituency still remains underdeveloped.  He is, therefore, appealing to delegates of the NDC to replace the incumbent MP with him so that he will provide the right leadership to turn things around if he eventually wins the 2024 Elections.

“There has never been a single occasion where my current MP has stood on the floor of Parliament to push for any road infrastructure in Nabdam.

There has never been a single press conference by the MP to drum home the issue of infrastructure in Nabdam, there has never been an attempt to galvanize the community for even a single demonstration or act to bring attention to the issue of the road. So that tells you that leadership is failing there,” he posited.

Lamtiig Apanga is running for the NDC’s parliamentary ticket for the Nabdam Constituency against two others; the incumbent MP, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane and Francis Sampana Zuure.

But the contest, political watchers say, is between the legal practitioner and the incumbent MP.

The elections have been scheduled to take place on May 13, 2023. But that has been thrown into a state of uncertainty following a lawsuit filed by a presidential aspirant, Kwabena Duffuor seeking to restrain the party from going ahead with the primaries.
