A youth advocate group, Transform Africa Now (TAN) has urged the youth of Nigeria to resort to legal means in  addressing their concerns about the just concluded elections.

In a press statement dated March 2, 2023, TAN noted that the young people of Nigeria are the future of the country and must continue their advocacy for positive change through peaceful and constructive means.

The group said although it appreciates concerns of the youth about the outcome of the February 25 Elections, they must not let their sentiments take hold of them to engage in violent and destructive acts that will worsen the security and economic situation of the country.

“We recognize that many of you have expressed disappointment and frustration with the outcome of the elections. While we understand your concerns, we urge you to direct your displeasure through lawful means and not resort to violence”.

It added, “As young people, you are the future of the great nation of Nigeria and must continue to advocate for positive change through peaceful and constructive means. You must not let your emotions and frustrations lead you down a path of violence and destruction”.

TAN commended Nigerians especially the youth for their active involvement in the election processes and their determination to turn things around for the country’s progress.

“Your unwavering determination to make your voices heard and your willingness to participate in the democratic process to birth a new Nigeria and set the tone for the continent are truly inspiring”.

While calling on young people of other African countries to emulate their Nigerian counterparts by actively participating in democratic processes and holding their  leaders accountable, it impressed upon them to direct their energies and passion into actions that will make the country better and prosperous.

Nigerians went to the polls on February 25, 2023 with most of the youth actively involved in the processes and launching a massive campaign on social media,  prior to the polls, for one of the leading candidates, Peter Obi, who they believe holds the keys to the country’s transformation and development.

The outcome of the February 25 Elections has, however, left them disappointed and in despair.

The elections which saw the ruling All Progressives Congress’s (APC’s) candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerge winner were marred by wide spread irregularities and reports of rigging.

Mr. Tinubu’s closer contenders, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Obi of the Labour Party have rejected the outcome and have, in separate motions at the country’s Supreme Court, challenged the results, declaring Mr. Tinubu president-elect.
