President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated president-elect of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu.
In a post on social media , President Akufo-Addo said he is hopeful that Mr. Tinubu victory, which has ensured continuity for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC ), will go a long way to enhance the quality of governance and rule of law in the federal public as well as the performance of its economy.
“President-elect Bola Tinubu’s victory has ensured that the ruling APC Government has been given four (4) more years to continue in office, which, I am hopeful, will go a long way to enhancing the quality of governance, the rule of law and the performance of the Nigerian economy”.
He wants Mr. Tinubu to toe the line of his predecessors in deepening further the cordial relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.
“It is my expectation that the President-elect would continue in the stead of past Nigerian leaders, and deepen even further the strong friendship that exists between Nigeria and Ghana, which has been based on a shared agenda of freedom, development, security, progress and prosperity,” he stated.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu was, on Wednesday, March 1, declared winner of the February 25 presidential elections of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The 70-year-old, the country’s Electoral Commission indicates, polled 8,794,726 votes to beat his closer contenders; Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party and 15 others who took part in the keenly contested elections.
Mr. Atiku Abubakar of the main opposition PDP trailed him closely with 6,984,520 of the total valid votes cast while the Labour Party’s Obi, who caused a major upset in the elections, polled 6,101,553 votes.
Mr. Tinubu has since been issued with a Certificate of Return, signifying his victory and will, in a later date, be sworn into office to takeover from outgoing president, Mohammdu Buhari.
However, his closer contenders have rejected the outcome of the elections. Both Mr. Obi and Mr. Atiku have vowed to challenge the election results as they alleged that the results have been skewed in favour of the ruling party’s candidate.
President Akufo-Addo commended the two for what he said is their vigorous and well-fought campaigns but wants them to act in ways that will strengthen the country’s democracy and ensure peace and stability.
