The Ministry of Education is not interested in engaging in further discussions on the school placement fraud uncovered by investigative media outlet, The Fourth Estate, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng has said.
In a post on Facebook minutes after The Fourth Estate published its latest digging into the matter, which appears to directly implicate the Minister of Education, Mr. Kwarteng said the Ministry has taken notice of the emerging issues relating to the matter but after consideration decided that it would not engage in its further discussion.
He said the “Ministry have already provided enough responses/information on the said subject matter” hence, its decision to stay out of the ongoing public discussion.
Undercover investigation by The Fourth Estate revealed that bribes were paid for placement of students into category “A” Senior High Schools in 2022.
The investigation also revealed that access to placement into such schools in the CSPSS system was limited to only the Minister of Education and the Director General of GES thus, the persons who demanded and received payments could not have done the fraudulent placement without the involvement of the 2 individuals
In its latest probe into the matter, the media outlet reported that one of such fraudulent placement which was made after payment of bribes has been traced to the login access of the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
This, it said, is contained in the testimony of former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa to a committee which was set up to probe alleged acts of corruption in the school placement.
But the Ministry said it will no longer speak on the matter.
