Martin King Arthur better known by his stage name as Kofi Kinaata won the highest number of awards at the 2020 edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards held in Accra at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The Team ‘Move’ boss won the Songwriter of the Year award on the first day of the award event and two other awards; Highlife Song of the Year and the Most Popular Song of the Year on the second day making him the artiste with the most awards.

The singer, however, lost the coveted award to Kuami Eugene who won one other award in addition to the overall award.

Kofi Kinaata’s song ‘Things fall Apart’ bagged him all the three awards. His win of the Songwriter of the Year award makes him the first musician to win that award three times at the VGMA.

Other winners of the two-day award nights include Kofi Mole who won Hip Hop song of the Year, Medikal who also took away the Hiphop/Hiplife Artiste of the Year and his song ‘Omo ada’ winning him the Hiplife song of the year.

Tema based rapper Kwesi Arthur also won the Best Rapper of the Year award while Ras Kuuku won the Reggae/dancehall Artiste of the Year.

Two new categories; Covid-19 Heroes which was awarded to the Ghana Health Service and Vodafone Green Ambassador which was awarded to Musician Gamsilla were created. The Covid-19 Heroes Award was in recognition of Health workers at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic while the Vodafone Green Ambassador was in recognition of musicians contribution to the development of the society.

The VGMA was initially scheduled to take place in May but was postponed indefinitely due to the Covid-19 induced restrictions on social gatherings.

Though the restrictions on social gatherings have been lifted, the event was held virtually with a few invited live audience and it is segmented into three days with the first two being days for awarding deserving musicians whose works were outstanding in the year under review.

The first night was hosted by Media General’s Giovanni Caleb and Actress and TV host Sika Osei while the second night of the event was hosted by Media General’s Berla Mundi and media personality, Kofi Okyere Darko popularly known as K.O.D.

The two-day award nights also saw thrilling performances by some Ghana’s favorite musicians.
