Host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere has reacted to government’s decision to seek economic support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in a bid to resolve the country’s prevailing economic challenges.

Government, on Monday, July 1, 2022, announced that it had begun engagement with the IMF, inviting the Bretton Woods institution to lend support to a program it put together to resolve the economic crisis facing the country.

A statement from the Ministry of Information signed by its head, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah indicated that President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had already conveyed Ghana’s decision to seek support from the IMF to its Managing Director and instructed Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to lead negotiation with the Fund.

The statement explained that “the engagement with the IMF will seek to provide balance of payment support as part of a broader effort to quicken Ghana’s build back in the face of challenges induced by the Covid-19 pandemic and, recently, the Russia-Ukraine crises”.

Reacting to the announcement, Mr. Adom-Otchere, who is a known ally of the government, stated, on the official social media page of his Good Evening Ghana show, that “It would appear that Ghana would have to access the IMF policy supervision  and financial support for the 18th time in our history but… se enso-nyame-ye!”

He added, “Let’s meet on Good Evening Ghana next week and discuss this honestly and frankly”.
