President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said the issue of age fraud and the use of different ages for different purposes and documents will become a thing of the past.

This, according to the president, is because the government has extended its digitalization drive to the births and registry, an institution in charge of taking records of citizens.

Delivering his State of the Nation Address before Parliament on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo stated that the digitization of the registry will enable it effectively discharge its duties and ensure accurate record of every child born in the country in order to get rid of age fraud as well as ensure uniformity of details of citizens in all other documents.

“The operation of the birth and death registry has finally been digitalized to make sure the document issued from that department are corded the respect that they should have. Every child born in this country will be registered and the date of birth registered will be your date of birth throughout your life.

There will be no school age, no football age, no SSNIT age and no age official age. When we register for national health insurance, the details of our identification will be the as the details on our driving license, the passport and our tax identification number,” he said.

He also expressed delight over the integration of the National Identification Card (Ghana Card) into “the everyday life” of Ghanaians, asserting that “Never again will it be that someone born in this country will live a full life, die and be buried without any record of his/her life”.

The president added “Today, we all have addresses with which we can be identified even if we live, unfortunately for the time being, in kiosk and when we die, that inalienable right of passage will be recorded to mark the end of our lives”.
