Former Deputy Minister for Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has said the Covid-19 pandemic cannot be used as an excuse for the inability of the Akufo-Addo-led government to deliver on in its promises.
According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, the government has had much resources in the midst of the pandemic and therefore Covid-19 cannot be an excuse for what he says is the underperformance of the New Patriotic Party government.
He argued that other West African countries which have equally been hit by the pandemic are performing credibly well in economic development than Ghana.
“Covid has ravaged several countries not just Ghana but I can show evidence of countries which are doing much better than Ghana in terms of the management of their economies. So I do not accept that Covid excuse. Indeed, within Covid, they (NPP government) have had more resources than many governments did in their entire tenure,” he said.
Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu insists that the NPP government has performed abysmally in every sector of the economy of Ghana. He maintained that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under former president Mahama has a superior record in infrastructural development than the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in spite of the fact that the NDC government had less resources as compare to the current government.
Speaking on Joy FM’S analysis show, News File, the former Deputy Communication minister recalled that the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia prior to the 2016, when the NPP was in opposition, had accused the then NDC government of performing poorly in infrastructural development because its capital expenditure to GDP ratio was less than that of ex-president Kufour’s administration pointing out that the Mahama government has a higher capital expenditure to GDP ratio than the Akuf-Addo-led government.
On the vice president’s presentation of the Akufo-Addo-led government’s achievements in infrastructure at the Town Hall meeting, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu described as embarrassing some of the projects Dr. Bawumia listed as achievements of the NPP government. He stated that the Mahama-led administration had left out those projects in compiling its Green Book because the government deemed such projects as insignificant to be touted as its achievement.
Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo Markin who also spoke on the show however disagreed with him. He maintained that the NPP government has implemented numerous life intervention policies to cushion Ghanaians against the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in addition to its achievements in infrastructural development.
