Winner of the 2020 3 Music Awards Next Rated Act, Martin Sore popularly known by his stage name, Soorebia says Westside Entertainment signee, Nambawan should have been considered for nomination to represent the Upper East Region in the Next Rated Act category in this year’s edition of the 3 Music Awards.

Speaking in an interview on Dreamz FM’s entertainment show, Plug-in, Soorebia argued that Nambawan has dominated the region’s music industry over the years especially in the year under review hence, he deserves nomination for consideration at the regional level.

While acknowledging that all the artistes who are being considered for nomination to represent the Upper East Region deserve the recognition, he maintained that the Westside Entertainment signee has more following and is better placed to win the award for the region having recently being adjudged Artiste of the Year at the 2021 Happy Man Bitters Upper East Music Awards.

“I feel Nambawan should have been there (in the list of nominees). Nambawan should have had the opportunity considering that he is the Upper East’s Artiste of the Year. He is better placed now to win,” he stated.

Soorebia also refuted claims that Nambawan is not qualified to be nominated again for same category since got nominated last year.

According to him, an artiste, per the award scheme’s guidelines, could be nominated twice at the regional after which he will be disqualified for nomination in the same category.

“(It is not true that he can’t be nominated again). Some people have been nominated again. There is somebody from Upper West who have been nominated again. He is nominated for the second time. My understanding is that when you make it to the final list, you don’t get nominated again. But at the regional level, you can be nominated twice then that is it,” he said.

He, however, urged organizers of the 3 Music awards to review its rules of engagement which bar artistes who got nomination for a number of times but unable to win from being re-nominated.

The ‘Gaafara’ hitmaker contended that such rules, if not reviewed, will deprive some regions the chance of winning the award as their best bet who previously got nominated will be disqualified from being nominated again.

His remarks follow the release of nominees for the 2022 3 Music Awards Next Rated Act for the Upper East Region.

The list of nominees, which includes Kilimore, Mani Mandela and Alaptawan, has been greeted with mixed reactions as many argue that rapper, Nambawan should have been nominated.

For them, the exclusion of Nambawan makes the list not credible. Others, however, claim the guidelines of the award scheme do not permit an artiste to be nominated more than once for the Next Rated Act category reason he has been excluded.
