Founder and president of Charger Limited, Dr. Emmanuel Bortey Borketey has condemned the arrest of Joseph Dumolga, a blogger with online news portal, Harmattan Gh.

In a statement distancing himself and his company, which subsidiary, Happy Man Beverages is headline sponsor of the Miss Upper East beauty pageantry, from the action taken against the blogger, Dr. Emmanuel Borketey said the arrest of Joseph Dumolga over his criticisms against organizers of the beauty pageant is uncalled for.

The blogger was arrested on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 by police at the Bolgatanga District Police Station for allegedly criticizing organizers of Miss Upper East over their failure to honor promises to winners of the previous editions of the beauty contest.

In a series of posts on social media specifically Facebook, Joseph Dumolga called out the organizers, describing them as fraudster who have put together a dubious scheme to dupe unsuspecting young women in the region of their hard-earned monies.

His harsh criticisms, however, did not go down well with the organizers who reported him to the police and got him arrested.

But addressing the matter following the release of the blogger, Dr. Emmanuel Borketey views the arrest as unwarranted, stating that the matter could have been resolved in a better way.

“Dr. Emmanuel Bortey Borketey and the entire Charger Limited distance ourselves from the actions taken against the above-mentioned blogger by the Ayelbis Events team. The actions taken by our partners were taken independently without consultation,” he said.

He added “the arrest of the above-mentioned blogger was uncalled for and that matters could have been resolved in a better way preferably the law court”.

While advising the organizers of the beauty pageant to embrace criticisms and see them as a motivation to improve upon their activities rather than a distraction to their brand, he stated that “no matter who you are, people have the right to criticize your actions and if you believe that they are doing that uninformatively with no truth, the law court is there to address the issue. Moving forward, let us be mindful of how we handle issues”.
