The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has apologised to Examiners of the ongoing West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations whose details have gone public and widely shared on social media.
The list of examiners containing their contacts and regions have been widely shared on social media platforms. A situation stakeholders in the education sector have raised concerns over and indicated that it could affect the integrity of the examination.
In a statement issued on Wednesday August 19, 2020, WAEC confirmed the leakage of the list and some papers while disclosing that “The council has initiated investigations into this disturbing development and reported the matter to the Cyber Crime Department of the Ghana Police Service”.
It however assured that its marking process remains fair as it includes swapping of scripts across regions, exclusion of school names on script envelopes among others.
While apologising to the examiners whose details have gone public, the examination management body explained that the list is a yet to be finalised version of examiners list for the 2020 WASSCE.
“While apologising unreservedly to all Examiners whose contact details were inadvertently circulated in the public domain, the council wishes to reiterate its commitment to safeguarding the integrity and credibility of its examinations and certificates respectively,” the statement added.
