The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has accused Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of claiming projects completed in 1960s as Akufo-Addo government’s achievements.
Reacting to the vice president’s address on government’s achievements on infrastructure at a Town Hall meeting at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Science on Tuesday, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said he is surprised that Dr. Bawumia touted a project which had been in existence way before the vice president was born as an achievement of the NPP’S government within the past three and half years.
According to the MP, the Volta Star Textiles Limited which was presented at the Town Hall meeting as one of the achievements of Akufo-Addo’s government in the North Tongu District has been in existence since the 1960s.
“I totally can’t believe what I am reading as NPP projects in North Tongu. Volta Star Textiles Limited which has been in existence since the 1960s (around the same time Dr. Bawumia was born) has been boldly listed by Dr. Bawumia as an Akufo-Addo/Bawumia completed project,” he stated.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in his address at the Town Hall touted the achievement of the NPP’s government in its first term as unprecedented. He said the government has initiated a total of 17, 334 out of which 8, 746 has been completed while 8,588 are in progress. He added that the said projects were constructed or being constructed in all parts of the country in line with government’s agenda of ensuring inclusive and accelerated economic development.
He also announced the launching of a website to access and verify government’s infrastructural projects stating that the website would ensure accountability and transparency of governance while helping government to prioritize the funding of uncompleted projects.
But the North Tongu MP described as ‘blatant untruths’ some of the projects that were presented by Dr. Bawumia as achievements of the current government.
