Upper East Regional Minister Tangoba Abayage has disputed assertions that the nomination of Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang as running mate to former President John Dramani Mahama will enhance the chances of the National Democratic Congress in the upcoming elections.
Though some election watchers and political analysts have pointed to a possible fortune of the opposition NDC in the 2020 election due to the nomination of a female as a vice presidential candidate, Ms. Abayage has stressed that would not work for the former President.
According to her, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress has a weak track record which cannot be restored by his female running mate.
Addressing jubilant party supporters in Bolgatanga at an event to inaugurate the upper east regional campaign team of the New Patriotic Party, she said “They should give me one reason we are not going to match them boot for ‘charlewote’.We are going to campaign on issues and we are going to the constituencies and telling them why His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his lieutenants are the best choice for this region. We are on fire”.
She assured that “This region is going to be ungovernable for John Mahama, Jane Naana and the NDC. It is not Jane Naa who is the problem, the problem is John Mahama. They could have even given him ten women as running mates, it doesn’t scare me. The problem is not with the women or his running mate but the problem is him”.
The upper east Regional Minister who is also the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party forcefully stated that the implementation of policies and programs such as Planting for Food and Jobs, One Village One Dam, One District One Factory amongst others form the bases for a highly anticipated victory for the party.
In a response to critics of government’s One Village One Dam initiative for the northern part of the Ghana, she stated that the upper east region has benefited the most as compared to other regions of the north.
“When it comes to one village one dam, this region has performed better than other regions. They can say whatever they want I don’t care. Today, we have places we didn’t have potholes that we have water during rainy season. It may not be big but animals go there to drink. If the NDC had same, by the time they would be leaving office those potholes would have become dams,” she said.
The regional campaign team which has its Chairman, Mr Anthony Namoo and other prominent party members in the region including the upper east regional minister and the Deputy Attorney General and MP for Tempane, Mr Joseph Dindiok Kpemka has been tasked with the responsibility of increasing the fortunes of the party in the December 2020 general elections.
