Former District Chief Executive for the Bolgatanga East District, Rev. Emmanuel Abugre Abole has accused the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Mahamudu Yakubu of masterminding the rejection of some of the District Chief Executive nominees.
In an open statement to the Regional Minister, Rev. Abole alleged that Mr. Stephen Yakubu instigated the rejection of the DCE nominees with the sole aim of harming the electoral fortunes of the governing party.
He stressed that although the minister had admonished leaders of the party and outgoing MDCEs to do their best and have the nominees approved, he went behind the scenes and plotted with the NPP’s Upper East Regional Chairman, Anthony Anamoo to have some of the nominees including that of the Binduri District, where he (the minister) hails from, rejected.
This, in his view, has embarrassed the party and brought shame on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government.
“I have read from other platforms that the Binduri candidate who is your District candidate could not make it. Is there any explanation to this rather embarrassing twist of events?
Two weeks ago, in your office, you admonished us to do our best to ensure our various candidates are endorsed and by that wanted to prevent me from traveling to Cape Coast to re-engage with my institution until the candidate was confirmed.
How come you failed woefully to put your house in order and therefore bringing this shame to the President? I personally smell your hand in this unfortunate happening. You have teamed up with the Regional Chairman to cause more harm to the Party” he stated.
Rev. Abole also accused the NPP’s Regional Chairman of masterminding the rejection of the DCE nominee for Nabdam District in the first election. He asserted that, but for the physical attacks unleashed on Mr. Anamoo by party’s supporters, Agnes Anamoo’s nomination would not have been approved.
He congratulated perpetrators of the physical attacks on the regional Chairman and served notice that similar treatment maybe meted out to the Regional Minister if he does not turn a new leaf.
“After the Regional Chairman was motivated with some beatings his candidate got 100%. Congratulations to those who gave him that spontaneous treatment. I hope you are not heading in that direction”.
The Rev. Father asked for divine intervention to save the party from the hands of Mr. Anamoo and Mr. Stephen Yakubu whom he described as a destroyer.
The former DCE’s accusations follow rejection of DCE nominees for Garu, Tempane and Binduri Districts by assembly members of their respective assemblies. The DCE nominee for the Tempane District was outrightly rejected while those of Garu and Binduri, although secured more than 50 percent of the votes cast, failed to get the adequate number of votes to be confirmed as DCEs.
Many have expressed shock over the rejection of the Binduri DCE nominee with some describing it as an indictment on the Regional Minister and the Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Abdulai Abanga who hail from the District.
