Members of the Bongo District Assembly have unanimously confirmed the District Chief Executive nominee for the area, Rita Atanga.
All the 54 members of the assembly, who took part in an election held on October 8, 2021 to confirm or reject her nomination, voted in favor of the approval of Madam Rita’s nomination as DCE for Bongo District.
Prior to the election, some assembly members proposed for her approval to be done through popular acclamation. But the Electoral Commission rejected the proposal and proceeded to conduct the election in which she secured all the votes cast.
Madam Rita Atanga takes over from Peter Ayinbisa who has served in same capacity since 2017. Although Mr. Ayinbisa performed creditably well and was tipped to be maintained as DCE for the area, he failed to make it to the president’s list of MMDCE’s nominees.
Political watchers attributed the decision of the president not to retain Mr. Ayinbisa to the publication of ‘The Bongo Scandal’ investigative report which uncover Mr. Ayinbisa’s involvement in alleged acts of corruption and illegal withdrawal of funds.
But the allegations, some political watchers say, are orchestration by some individuals within the party who are interested in the DCE position and had resulted to play dirty in order to have him removed and boost their chances of getting appointed.
