The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will need the services and contributions of Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen in its bid to make history by breaking the 8-year power jinx, that is the assertion of former Public Relations Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).

Extolling the virtues of the Trades Minister in a post on social media, Awal Mohammed opined that Mr. Alan Kyerematen is a great personality and has the skills and experience as well as the competence to aid the party realize its ambition to rule the country beyond two consecutive terms.

He said the likes of Mr. Kyerematen and other high profile personalities as members of the governing party is an indication that the party has the requisite human resources and will only need to effectively deploy them in executing its campaign ahead of the 2024 General Elections in order to clinch another victory.

“I took my time to read through the profile of Alan Cash. I was completely gobsmacked to realize that he is 66years today. Thought he was younger. He has a very rich CV and a great personality by all standards. We really have the men!

Looking at what he’s doing at the trade ministry to support the industrialization agenda by the Akufo-Addo/Batumi gov’t, imagine having him as the trade minister for 12 to 16 years, trust me, Ghana would be the China of Africa. We need him and everyone alike to break the 8 in shaa Allah,” he stated in a post on October 3.

Months after securing a second term in office in a disputed election, the governing NPP has launched a vigorous campaign aimed at securing another term in office and breaking the 8-year rule for each party which seems to be the norm since the country returned to constitutional rule in 1992.

No political party in the country has been able to successfully win power to govern the country beyond 8-years since the advent of the Fourth Republic.

But the governing party is on a course to rewrite history and change this narrative. It will in 2023 decide in an internal election who leads it into the 2024 Elections as president Akufo-Addo will be stepping down in line with the 2-term limit enshrined in the Constitution.

Already, there are campaigns for Mr. Alan Kyerematen and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party into the next elections with supporters of each of them touting their abilities to break the 8-year power swing in the country’s political space.

Others including the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Kojo Owusu Afriyie; former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko and former Railways Minister, Joe Ghartey have indicated their desire to run for the flagbearership of the party.
