Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson has opened up about her family life. Speaking in an interview on Good Evening Ghana, Madam Hawa Koomson revealed that she has 3 children with her husband who she said is a civil servant.

She indicated that all her 3 children; 2 boys and a girl have graduated from the tertiary level with two of them currently working.

The girl, who is her second-born, holds a master’s degree in Chartered Accounting while the eldest child holds a degree in geophysics and they are both employed, she disclosed.

The youngest child, she added, has just completed his 1 year mandatory national service after reading an engineering course at the university.

“I live together with my 3 children and my husband in Kasoa. My last born is 22 years and he is done with his national service. The second one who is a girl has her masters and she is a chartered accountant and the senior one did geophysics in the university and the last one did engineering. The senior one is already in the oil industry. They are very responsible too. And my husband is a civil servant” she told host of the show.

Madam Hawa Koomson, who is the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, said this while narrating how her opponents in the 2012 and 2016 elections falsely accused her of having 3 children by 3 different men.

She noted that women like herself who are into politics are seen as prostitutes as result, most people particularly male politicians make derogatory remarks about them especially on campaign platforms.

She said although the accusations were completely false, she did not bother to refute them, stating “the elders say if you are in the bath and a madman comes to take your cloth, you don’t have to run after him naked or else you will also be tagged as a madman.”
