The opposition National Democratic Congress has called for an independent audit into the issues of multiple registration on the newly compiled voter register.

According to the party, it has cited discrepancies in the figures churned out by the Electoral Commission  which points out to under declaration of figures and forcefully argues that it has reliable information that suggest the EC’s electoral systems are defective.

“That is why we are calling for an independent audit of the entire register in relation to multiple registrations and details of all the multiple registrations on the register should be made available to the political parties for verification. We are highly suspicious of this move because we are aware the management of the EC has transferred almost all the experienced IT experts at the Headquarters to the various regions for very strange reasons,” Director of Elections of the NDC Elvis Afriyie Ankrah said at a press conference in Accra on Thursday.

The party wants the details of all those who are found to have engaged in multiple registration through the audit to be made available for verification by the political parties.

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah further alleged that EC has transferred all of its experienced IT personnel from the EC’s headquarters to various regions replacing them with political activist describing it as strange while serving notice to resist any attempt by the EC to use the de-duplication process to remove names of non-Akans.

The NDC had vehemently opposed the compilation of the new register when the EC announced its intention to compile a new electoral roll. They had resorted to various means to stop the EC from compiling the new register including dragging the commission to the supreme but the Apex Court shot down their quest to stop the commission from compiling the register paving way for the exercise to the

The party has since the beginning of the registration bemoaned alleged deliberate attempts by the government including the use of the security forces to intimidate prospective registrants especially non-Akans from registering.

The party’s flagbearer on several occasions accused the government of using tyrannical means to remain in power.
