Agnes Mba, a disabled nine year old primary one pupil of Dasabligo Primary School in the Nabdam District of the Upper East region who crawls to school would need to undergo an Orthopedic surgery to enable her get out of her current situation.
The story of little Agnes which was first published on Dreamzfmonline.com has attracted reactions from many Ghanaians from across the country who have expressed interest and readiness to render support to her.
Following a visit by management of Dreamz Fm to the school and home of little Agnes in Dasabligo, it emerged that her parents used to carry her on the back to school daily. However, this could not be sustained over time, compelling her to crawl over 2km distance on a stony road from home to school and back.
The school’s authorities in an interaction with management of Dreamz fm during the visit stated that though disabled, Agnes is one of the most active pupils in the school and exudes brilliance with a strong desire to learn.
“She loves to come to school always. Wherever the children go to play during break, you would see her crawling and jumping there. We don’t stop her,” a class teacher said.
The Bruises
An examination of her knees showed bruises obviously out of the daily activity of dragging her soft skin on the rough and stony road.
This also makes it near impossible to appear in a clean school uniform.
The Call for Support
Mba Abaane, father of Agnes has explained that their inability to proceed to seek the attention of a ‘bones doctor’ (Orthopedic Surgeon) upon medical advice when she was born led to her current state.
“When she was born, she couldn’t turn her head freely and couldn’t see well. She was very weak and feeble and couldn’t see well. We kept going to hospital until it became better. She could move her head around and raise her hands but couldn’t walk. We didn’t have money to go and see the bones specialist they asked us to see,” Mba Abaane said.
The Way Forward
Agnes is required to have a specialist consultation on her condition at the Wa hospital in the Upper West region. This is expected to be followed up by a medical management for a period before she is taking through an orthopedic surgery to correct her condition.
Meanwhile, she will also be needing a hand-paddled tricycle to make her movement to school convenient ahead of the expected medical procedure.
Support is hereby solicited by management of Dreamz fm for the planned correctional procedure.
