Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang has said the next NDC government would provide sustainable jobs for graduates from the various tertiary institutions in the country.

The former Minister for Education said the NDC is concerned about the current graduate unemployment situation in the country and would work assiduously to eradicate the situation when elected.

She argued that the current situation where graduates from higher learning institutions spend between five to seven years searching for jobs is unacceptable. She therefore assured that the next NDC government, should they win the 2020 elections, would make jobs available for graduate students.

Mrs. Opoku Agyemang said this when leadership of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG) called on her at her office in Accra on Sunday August 9, 2020.

“It is also unacceptable that after completing their studies, graduate students spend between five and seven years looking for employment. That is an issue that must change and we, #JMandJane2020, are going to work hard to change that by providing sustainable jobs,” she stated.

She further assured GRASAG leaders of the party’s commitment to address the multitude of challenges facing the educational sector.

While reiterating the NDC’s opposition to the public Universities Bill currently before parliament, she stated that it would be repealed under an NDC government.

Meanwhile, the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama has announced a 10 billion accelerated infrastructure development plan dubbed ‘The Big push’ to provide jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities for Ghanaians particularly young people.

Speaking in an interview on TV XYZ , Mr. Mahama said, when voted into power in the December 2020 elections, his government would focus on providing jobs for young people.

He said there is a need to urgently address youth unemployment to avert “a time bomb ticking away”.

“Everything, every policy, and every policy will be focused on creating jobs for young people,” he stated in the interview.

Mr. Mahama had announced during the outdooring of his running mate that he would create over a million jobs at the end of his tenure if he wins the upcoming elections. This he said was to address the massive job losses under the Akufo-Addo’s administration.
