Franklin Cudjoe, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of policy think tank, Imani Africa has praised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for intervening in the matter of the dismissal of some 14 Senior High School students.

President Nana Addo on Sunday admonished the Ghana Education Service to give the 14 students who were barred from writing the ongoing West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination the opportunity to sit for the exams.

The President has directed the Minister  for Education Mr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh to engage the Ghana Education Service on the matter.

“Even though the acts of indiscipline undertaken by these students are intolerable, acts which have led to their subsequent dismissal from school, President Akufo-Addo is of the firm view that dismissal alone is enough punishment, and will serve as enough deterrent against acts of indiscipline,” a statement signed by Director of Communications at the Presidency said.

In a reaction to the President’s intervention, Franklin Cudjoe noted that the decision as expected of every responsible father is commendable.

“I think the President did well by intervening to have the students who gravely insulted and abused his person pardoned to enable them write exams at least. This is what responsible fathers do,” he wrote on Facebook.

He further likened the intervention to the decision of of former President John Dramani Mahama to pardon 3 members of the National Democratic Congress who were jailed for threatening and making derogatory comments about some supreme court judges.

He added “It is no different from JM’s decision to show clemency to the vagabond Muntie 3 after thousands signed a petition for that outcome.”
