The National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress Sammy Gyamfi has filed a criminal complaint with the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of Ghana Police Service against Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

The complaint filed by his legal representative, AB & M Legal Consult on Thursday, August 6, 2020 stated that Mr. Agyapong allegedly issued threats on the life of Mr. Sammy Gyamfi.

The NDC spokesman said in the complaint that Kennedy Agyapong while speaking on Accra based Asempa FM’s programme dubbed ‘Eko si sen” on August 4, 2020 threatened to “cause harm and/or death” to him through his thugs if he does not refrain from his peculiar manner of advocating on national issues.

“While speaking in Twi language on the said programme, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong stated among other things that, if our client (Sammy Gyamfi) does proceed with his advocacy on national issues in a particular manner, he shall in a matter of ‘three seconds organize his thugs to beat and/or finish our client mercilessly,” it stated.

Mr. Gyamfi insists that the MP intends to carry through his threats as he has gathered through what he described as credible intelligence to the effect that Mr. Agyapong has contracted thugs to execute the threats issued on his life.

Making reference to the unfortunate death of investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale, he stated that he is forced to lodge the complaint to avert his possible death as it happened to the late Ahmed Suale after similar threats were issued on his life by Mr. Agyappong on media platforms including the ‘Eko si sen’ platform.

“Having regard to recent history and the notorious fact that a prominent investigative journalist by name Ahmed Suale was shot and murdered in cold blood by some unknown criminals following similar threats made on his life by the same Mr. Kennedy Agyapong; our client, as a law-abiding citizen feels compelled to formally write to you and lodge a complaint against the said Mr. Kennedy Agyapong. This will avert a possible repeat of what happened to the late Ahmed Suale when his life was threatened by Mr. Kennedy Agyapong on that very ‘Ekosisen’ platform and other media platforms.”

Mr. Gyamfi Asserted that the threats on his life are serious offences under the Criminal Offences Act of Ghana, Act 1960 (Act 29) and therefore request an investigation to be commenced into the matter.

He also assured the police of his readiness to offer his assistance to them in the course of the investigation.
