Ghanaian soul music star, Sherifa Gunu believes she has what it takes to grab a Grammy award if she is given the needed support.
Speaking on UTV’s entertainment show, United Showbiz, the soul musician said she does good music and will only require a push from a music record label to grab a Grammy or any other global award.
Sherifa Gunu, who was sharing her views on recent discussions in the media over the inability of Ghanaian musicians to make it to the Grammys after two Nigerian artistes picked up awards at the recently held ceremony of the global award scheme, stated that although the country has good musicians who are capable of winning global awards, the music industry lacks well-resourced record label to market their music.
“We don’t have record labels to market our music. I, for instance, I manage myself. I have no support in promoting my music. If I get a good record label to support me, I will easily a win a Grammy award. I do good music. If you listen to my album, all the songs are good but there is no support to market my music to the world,” she stated.
Ghanaian musicians particularly the A-list artistes have come under a barrage of criticisms and ridicule after their counterparts in Nigeria, Burna Boy and Wizkid won awards at the 63rd Grammy Award ceremony held in Los Angeles in the United States of America on March 14, 2021.
Ghanaians, especially on social media, criticized the country’s musicians for failing to project their works to the global world so as to be recognized just like their Nigerian counterparts.
