Party lovers defy Covid-19 protocols, gather in their numbers at Vea Dam for Valentine celebration.

Some revelers in the Upper East Region have defied protocols put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and massed up at the Vea Dam, a popular event ground in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region to mark this year’s Valentine’s day.

With a recent surge in the cases of Covid-19, President Akufo-Addo reintroduced the ban on public gatherings including funerals, parties and weddings.

In a bid to enforce the ban on the restrictions, the Bolgatanga Police Command in a letter addressed to hotels and party organizers at the Vea Dam, warned against such gatherings. It stated that failure to adhere to Covid-19 restrictions will provoke prosecution.

But in sharp defiance to the restrictions and warnings, some lovers, most of whom are clad in red and white which are colours akin to the day’s celebration are turning up in their numbers at the dam considered as the beach of the Upper East Region to have fun.

Currently, Ghana’s active cases stands at 7, 754 after 771 new cases were recorded.

The country’s death toll is now 533

The Upper East Region has recorded over 700 cases with 26 deaths.
