Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central constituency Isaac Adongo has forcefully argued that former President John Dramani Mahama made significant payments to customers of DKM before leaving office in 2017.

A promise by the former President to pay customers of collapsed financial institutions within a year if elected into office has sparked a new wave of conversation on the payment of thousands of affected customers.

In a reaction to a question posed by a leading member of the New Patriotic Party Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko on why the former President could not pay customers of DKM while he was in office, Isaac Adongo stated “JM was paying DKM customers before the vindictive Akufo Addo stopped the payment to DKM customers and sued Dr Johnson Asiamah, the former Second Deputy Governor of BOG for signing the term sheet to raise over Ghc250m to pay DKM customers.”

He argued that the former President made two rounds of payments to customers of the collapsed institution before leaving office.

John Dramani Mahama at an event to outdoor his running mate said “I pledge on behalf of the NDC that we shall within one year of being in office pay all funds that have been locked up with the collapsed financial institutions. Within our first year in office, we shall pay all the beneficiaries all funds locked up in the collapsed financial institutions and its a promise. We shall not put together any long term payment plan that will further worsen the living conditions of the victims.”

Meanwhile, government says it has already made close to 90% of DKM customers across the country.
