A former National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Keta and former Minister of state Dan Abodakpi has called out Professor Kwamena Ahwoi for attempting to denigrate former President Jerry John Rawlings in a book that was recently launched in Accra.
Professor Ahwoi, a party stalwart has in his book titled ‘Working with Rawlings’ suggested the former President did not offer much in founding the National Democratic Congress and his rants that negatively affected the reign of late President John Evans Atta Mills.
Professor Kwamena Ahwoi has revealed amongst other happenings the discomfort and traumatizing moments the late President Mills endured at the behest of former President Rawlings.
However, Mr. Dan Abodakpi who is currently the Chairman of the Volta Region Council of Elders of the NDC has punched inaccuracies in the accounts of Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, describing the book as slanderous and treacherous.
“I wish to state unequivocally that I will never be an accessory to any grand agenda to delink President Rawlings from the National Democratic Congress as the Party that he Founded. It is my considered opinion that many parts of the book,l that I have sighted, are not really factual. My very intimate historical knowledge of some of the key actions that shaped our Revolutionary/Democratic evolution and our current political status are not in question given my experience as a Member of the Political Committee and the Campaign Steering Committee,” Mr. Abodakpi said in a statement seen by dreamzfmonline.com.
According to him, Jerry John Rawlings may not be a ‘plaster Saint’ but he certainly does not deserve such denigrating accounts from Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi who he noted was “gifted the privilege to participate in building on the foundations of sacrifice established by the Founder.”
He further questioned the motive behind Prof. Ahwoi’s book while stating emphatically that “I distance myself from any and all references made to me in this book.”
The one time Trade and Industry Minister disclosed that though he had reservations with a decision by the wife of Mr. Rawlings, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to contest President Mills in the party’s presidential primaries, he added that “I would never describe her in so derogatory a manner as has been done in the book.”
Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, born on October 13, 1951 served under Jerry John Rawlings as Local Government Rural Development Minister from 1990 to 2001.
He has in his book written extensively about his working relationship with former President Rawlings and made astonishing revelations around many matters that were not brought to the public domain.
